Abrakadoodle Helps Girl Scouts Discover Their Creative Potential

Abrakadoodle’s mobile art education programs are a great fit for the Girls Scouts, bringing creative art classes, Badges & Try-Its programs directly to troops at schools and community sites. Dave Coates, Director of Abrakadoodle-North Dallas suburbs, has been bringing Abrakadoodle’s award-winning programs to Girls Scouts, Brownies and Daisies of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas for the past five years. Girls use their imaginations as they learn and apply skills using paint, watercolor, sculpting materials and other mediums. Lessons teach the girls about artists, styles and techniques, and they develop a visual art vocabulary. Each participant produces her own original art work.

The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas is a large operation, covering 32 Texas counties with programs to benefit girls from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Dave’s mobile art program offers the Girls Scouts quality and convenience. In addition to art classes, Dave offers such badge programs as Art in 3D, Art to Wear and Painting and Drawing. Try-Its include the very popular Puppets, Dolls and Plays (example right), Art to Wear, as well as Numbers and Shapes.

A flexible program, Abrakadoodle-North Dallas has partnered with a local cheer gym to offer multi-hour Girl Scout events that combine an art badge with a dance badge for a fixed price. Dave Coates is also a partner in helping the Girl Scouts to achieve their goals. To that end, he has offered classes to a service unit that resulted in art creations that were sold during a fundraising auction.
